A piece of legislation headed by State Representative Josh Branscum takes effect today.
The Kentucky Consumer Data Protection Act was spearheaded by Branscum and signed into law during the 2024 legislative session. However, today is the first day the law is in effect.
The law aims to enhance consumer privacy rights in Kentucky and provide residents more control over their personal information that is shared. The law allows residents to obtain a portable copy of the information and opt out of things like targeted advertising.
Branscum said working on detailed legislation like this takes a lot of time, but he believes it is ultimately worth it for the benefits it provides.
The 2026 legislative session is set to get underway next week.
