A Monticello man was arrested yesterday, minutes after escaping from the Wayne County Detention Center.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said 36-year-old Shane Cooney had just returned to the detention center following a court hearing when he slipped out of one side of a leg restraint while being taken toward the inside of the detention center and fled on foot.
After dispatch notified all law enforcement that Cooney escaped, a deputy in the area located Cooney less than five minutes after he escaped.
Cooney is charged with escape – 2nd degree. He was lodged back in the Wayne County Detention Center.
