RCHS Soccer, Volleyball teams victorious last night

The Russell County High School Soccer and Volleyball teams were victorious last night.

The Lady Laker Soccer team hosted Pulaski County last night, winning by a score of 2-1. Addison Coffey scored both goals for the Lady Lakers in the win, and Madison Weisbrodt finished with an assist. At goalkeeper, Jasmine Bennett had 9 saves and Liz Evans had 8.

The JV team, however, fell short by a score of 2-0. Andrea Hernandez had 8 saves as goalkeeper.

The Laker Soccer team went on the road to Warren East, pulling out a win in dramatic fashion.

The Lakers struck first, with Xavi Medrano playing the ball up to Yahir Reyes for an early goal. Warren East responded with a pair of goals near the end of the first half to take a 2-1 lead.

Evan Hutchison scored a goal on a corner kick about midway through the half to tie the game, and with time winding down, a free kick from Hutchison bounced off the Raiders goalkeeper and Reyes cleaned it up to give the Lakers the 3-2 win.

On the volleyball court, the Lady Lakers picked up their first win of the season and the first win for new head coach Kaitlyn Coffey. The Lady Lakers defeated the Lady Rockets 2 sets to 1.
