Russell County unemployment rate ranks lowest in area again

Russell County’s unemployment rate last month was the lowest in the Lake Cumberland area.

The Kentucky Center for Statistics reported a 5.3 percent unemployment rate for Russell County in March.

Cumberland County’s unemployment rate came in at 5.4 percent, Adair County at 5.9 percent, Clinton and Pulaski each at 6.1 percent, and Casey County at 6.4 percent.

Wayne County’s unemployment rate was the highest in the Lake Cumberland area at 7.3 percent.

Russell County has had the lowest unemployment rate in the Lake Cumberland area for the first three months of 2025, according to KY Stats.

Most of the Lake Cumberland area saw an increase in unemployment from March 2023 to March 2024. Russell County saw just a 0.1 percent increase. Most neighboring counties saw increases ranging from half-a-percent to more than one-percent. Cumberland County’s rate remained unchanged, one of only eight counties statewide not to see an increase.
