Russell County had lowest unemployment rate in Lake Cumberland area in January

Russell County had the lowest unemployment rate in the Lake Cumberland area for the month of January.

The Kentucky Center for Statistics reported an unemployment rate of 5.6 percent in January in Russell County. That was the lowest in the 10-county area. That number is also down from the 6.3 percent unemployment rate in January 2024.

Russell County was also the only county in the Lake Cumberland area to see a decrease in unemployment from January 2024 to January 2025. Only nine counties statewide had a decrease.

Looking at other counties in the area, Taylor County wasn’t far behind with a rate of 5.8 percent. Wayne County had the highest unemployment rate in the area at 7.4 percent. The other neighboring counties all came in at around 6 percent.
