The Russell County Lakers started strong and finished strong in last night’s region tournament victory over Franklin-Simpson, coming away with a 57-46 win over the Wildcats.
The Lakers scored 22 points in the first quarter and held a 10-point lead going into the second quarter. Franklin-Simpson trimmed the lead to seven going into halftime, and trimmed it to four points headed into the 4th quarter.
The Lakers finished the game strong in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 20-13 over the final eight minutes to secure the win.
Mayes Gosser led Russell County with 19 points in the win. Maddox Shearer scored 12 points and Owen Loy scored 10 in the victory. Dylan Stanelle added 8 points for the Lakers.
With the win, the Lakers advance to the region semifinals where they will take on the Bowling Green Purples next Monday. Russell County-Bowling Green will be the second game of the night, with tip-off slated for approximately 8 p.m.
