Lakers clinch spot in region tournament with win over Cumberland County

For the first time since 2018, the Russell County Lakers are headed to E.A. Diddle Arena for the 4th Region Boys Basketball tournament.

The Lakers defeated the host Cumberland County Panthers in the 16th District Tournament last night by a score of 83-78 to clinch a spot in the 4th Region Tournament and will face off against the top-seed Clinton County on Friday night for the district championship.

Dylan Stanelle led Russell County with 20 points in the win, followed by Maddox Shearer with 19, Mayes Gosser with 15 and Owen Loy with 13 points.

Friday night’s district championship matchup between the Lakers and Bulldogs is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cumberland County High School. If you can’t make it to the game, we’ll have all the action live right here on Laker Country 104.9.
