Update from Kentucky State Police (11:23 a.m. 2-28-25):
The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team continues to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sept. 16, 2024, in Russell County. On Feb. 27, 2025, troopers from Post 15, Columbia, served an arrest warrant for Linda M. Ashbrook, from Russell Springs, Ky., on charges of Complicity to Murder, Hindering Prosecution, Wanton Endangerment, and Persistent Felony Offender relating to the death of Russell County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) Deputy Joshua Phipps. Ms. Ashbrook was taken into custody without incident. Two other individuals were with her at the time and were arrested on outstanding warrants not related to the officer-involved shooting investigation.
A woman was arrested last night on charges including complicity to murder in relation to the shooting death of Russell County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Phipps last year.
38-year-old Linda M. Ashbrook was arrested by Kentucky State Police last night and charged with complicity to murder, wanton endangerment first degree, and hindering prosecution or apprehension.
According to a sealed indictment released today, Ashbrook hindered the apprehension of Joshua Arnold, who was being sought in connection to Phipps’ death. The indictment claims she was complicit in the death of Phipps.
The indictment lists Ashbrook as having an address on Bluebird Drive, the same street where Phipps was shot.
Ashbrook was arrested by Kentucky State Police and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center. She’s being held on a $100,000 bond.
