Russell County Sheriff Derek Polston told the Russell County Fiscal Court this week he has been working with State Rep. Josh Branscum on naming Highway 127 in Russell County the “Deputy Sheriff Joshua Phipps Memorial Highway.”
Phipps was killed in the line of duty last September while assisting state police on a call.
Polston said he asked Branscum to look into the name change beginning at the Russell/Casey County line and extending to the Clinton County line.
Branscum sponsored a joint resolution that was introduced in the Kentucky House of Representatives last Wednesday regarding the naming of the highway.
Because Highway 127 is a federal highway, such an action would require approval at the federal level.
