Board of education member Eric Selby said he recently received a couple calls about the issue. Selby pointed out that he believes it is a hazard for cars to be parked along the side of Highway 127 for that long.
Selby said those who called wanted to know if the school district was able to do anything about the issue.
The Kentucky Center for School Safety has strongly advised that schools do not allow parents and guardians to enter the school campus until just a few minutes before time to pick up students.
Russell County Schools Safety Director Jackie Grider said it’s a safety issue because cars lining up on the side of the road block that lane for its intended use as an emergency lane.
Superintendent Michael Ford noted that other school districts around the state deal with similar issues.
Law enforcement issuing warnings or citations was floated as a possible solution for the issue, but nothing was set in stone.
