Local vaping stores and those around the state now face new regulations from a law passed during last year’s legislative session.
House Bill 11 only allows the sale of FDA approved vape products, significantly limiting the number of products that can be sold in stores.
The law also increases the fine that can be imposed on businesses who are caught selling to minors from $100 to $1,000 for the first offense and $5,000 for subsequent offenses.
With the 2025 state legislative session coming up, State Senator Jimmy Higdon said the legislature could look at more legislation to tackle problems with underage vaping.
Underage vaping is a problem across the state, and Russell County is no exception. The Russell County Board of Education implemented a new policy on vaping in schools back in August to address the issue.
The state’s new vaping law went into effect yesterday.
