Yesterday on local news, we reported Kentucky Education Commissioner Robbie Fletcher is asking state legislators to grant school districts more Non-Traditional Instruction, or NTI, days to be able to use for at-home learning in situations such as inclement weather or other health or safety concerns.
WJRS News spoke with Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford on the issue, and said he is in favor of school districts receiving additional NTI days for this school year.
Russell County Schools has now utilized 7 NTI days. Multiple school districts have already used the 10 NTI days allotted by state law.
It’s unknown right now what will happen as the state legislature is not scheduled to reconvene until February 4.
