Countywide deer harvest highest in several years

Total harvest results from this past deer hunting season have been released by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the numbers show the highest number of deer harvested locally in several years.

The Kentucky Department for Fish and Wildlife reports 585 total deer harvested locally. According to data from Fish and Wildlife, that’s the highest number since at least 1999 in Russell County.

Last year, 431 deer were harvested locally and 457 were harvested the year prior.

Of those 585 deer harvested locally, 470 were male and 115 were female. Of that number, 390 were taken with a modern firearm, 55 with archery, 92 with crossbow, and 48 with muzzleloader.
