Students in Adair County were taken into custody and charged after posting a threatening message on Snapchat earlier this week that resulted in classes being called off for two days.
Adair County Schools Superintendent Jason Faulkner released a message yesterday saying their investigation resulted in students being taken into custody and charged after a picture on snapchat surfaced earlier this week of a person holding a handgun and mentioning Adair County Schools.
Faulkner said they believe the intent of the photo was to pressure the school district to call off classes, and was not an actual threat toward the school.
Faulkner said the picture was not an Adair County student, and instead was a photo copied from the internet, but the school district and local law enforcement will pursue charges for the threatening message.
Anyone who threatens violence at a school can be charged with terroristic threatening – first degree, a Class C felony according to Kentucky law, which is punishable by 5-10 years in prison. It is unknown how many students were involved.
