Last night was standing room only at Russell Springs City Hall for the monthly city council meeting, with several city residents in attendance.
In a narrowly contested vote, the city’s new chicken ordinance passed by a vote of 3-2.
Council members Timmy Hudson, Sherry Daniel, and David Blakey voted in favor of the motion, while council members Cody Wilson and Lisa Mann voted against.
Mayor Eddie Thomas spoke to WJRS News about some highlights of the ordinance and why the city felt it was necessary.
In other news that brought out a big crowd to the meeting, the council unanimously voted against a proposed zoning change that would’ve allowed a trailer to be placed at a lot on Bluebird Drive.
The zoning board previously met regarding the issue, but the issue died in the zoning meeting for lack of a motion. The city’s zoning administrator Tommy Holt said he was required to then bring it before the council, who voted unanimously to leave it as an R-1 zone.
Most of the residents in attendance live on Bluebird Drive and had expressed they were not in favor of the proposed zoning change.
