A second elected official in neighboring Adair County has resigned after a meeting with County Judge Executive Larry Russell Bryant.
Just a day after Adair County Sheriff Josh Brockman announced his retirement, Adair County Coroner Roger Huckaby announced he will be stepping down from his elected office.
According to the Adair County Community Voice, Huckaby’s resignation will be effective October 1, the same day as Brockman’s.
The newspaper said Huckaby pointed to a meeting with Bryant leading to his resignation, stating that Bryant said the coroner’s office was not very busy and performed no physical labor. Huckaby added the environment was toxic and said Bryant was disrespectful to him.
Huckaby requested the hiring of an additional deputy coroner at the fiscal court meeting earlier this week, which Bryant took issue with. The magistrates approved the hiring regardless.
Bryant will now be tasked with appointing a new coroner for the county.
