Hart’s walk-off double gives Russell County big district win

Last night’s 16th District Softball showdown between Russell County and Clinton County went down-to-the-wire with Avery Hart hitting a hard ground ball into center field, scoring the winning run from second base to give the Lady Lakers a big district win.

Down to two outs with the score tied 3-3, Hart’s hit scored Rylen McGowan from second to give the Lady Lakers the victory, and handing the Lady Bulldogs their first district loss of the season.

McGowan led the Lady Lakers with 2 hits and 2 runs batted in. McGowan and Camdin Cooper hit back-to-back home runs in the 5th inning. It was home run #7 for McGowan on the season and #2 for Cooper.

Addison Hart picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle, going 7 innings and giving up 3 runs (only 1 earned) on 5 hits and striking out 4.

The Lady Lakers improve to 17-12 on the season and 4-3 in district play.
