Wayne County man leads police on manhunt after firing gun inside home

A Wayne County man was arrested following a manhunt after he reportedly fired shots inside a home where several people were present.

According to reports, Richard D. Baker Jr of Monticello was arrested and faces six counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, alcohol intoxication in a public place, and fourth-degree assault.

Law enforcement in Wayne County said they were called to a home off South Highway 1275 Monday afternoon for a report of domestic violence. Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were told Baker reportedly fired multiple shots inside the home where several people were inside, including children.

Deputies also learned a man was assaulted inside the home.

Baker left the house with a firearm, and law enforcement searched a two-mile area before locating Baker in a grown-up briar patch next to the Tradeway Shopping Center.

He was taken to Wayne County Hospital to be treated for injuries, then lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
