Russell County saw increase in unemployment last year

New data from the Kentucky Center for Statistics shows Russell County had a slight increase in unemployment last year compared to 2022.

According to the report, Russell County’s unemployment rate was 5.3 percent last year, compared to 5.1 percent in 2022.

Russell County wasn’t the only county to see an increase in unemployment. According to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, 80 of Kentucky’s 120 counties saw an increase including 8 of the 10 counties in the Lake Cumberland Area.

Russell County’s 2023 unemployment rate was the third-highest in the Lake Cumberland area, coming in behind McCreary County at 5.9 percent and Wayne County at 5.6 percent.

In other neighboring counties, Clinton County came in at 5.2 percent, Adair County came in at 5 percent, Pulaski County at 4.8 percent, Casey County at 4.1 percent and Cumberland County was among the lowest statewide at 3.4 percent.
