Lawsuit filed against Adair County Jail

A lawsuit has been filed against the Adair County Jail and multiple other entities in response to the death of an inmate at the facility that occurred last year.

The family of Anthony Robinson, who died at the jail last April, is filing the lawsuit.

The Adair County government is named in the civil lawsuit, along with the jailer and three deputy jailers.

Southern Health Partners and a nurse for the company are also named as defendants.

The lawsuit claims negligence and deliberate indifference to Robinson’s medical needs when he was an inmate at the facility.

According to reports, Robinson suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure, and had suffered a stroke, along with other health conditions.

On April 2 last year, the suit claims that Robinson was again in need of emergency medical care but none was given.

Shortly after midnight, the jail staff was made aware that Robinson’s breathing had gone from heavy to shallow and upon entry by officers, they found Robinson unresponsive.

EMS was called but reports are that no CPR was performed at any time until Columbia Police arrive on scene about 5 minutes later.
