Laker Baseball shuts out South Warren, splits Saturday doubleheader

The Laker Baseball team picked up a shutout win Friday night and split Saturday’s doubleheader at David Rexroat Field.

On Friday, the Lakers picked up a 10-0 win over 4th Region opponent South Warren.

Ayden McGowan and Jack Shearer powered the Laker offense Friday night, with McGowan leading the team with 3 hits and Shearer finished with 2, with each driving in a pair of runs.

Lincoln Helm put together a strong pitching performance, pitching 6 innings and giving up just 2 hits while shutting out the Spartans on the scoreboard. Helm finished the night with 3 strikeouts.

On Saturday, the Lakers split a doubleheader at home, falling to Madison Southern and defeating Harrison County with both games being decided by 1 run.

In the first game against Madison Southern, the Lakers fell by a score of 5-4. It was Carter Stapp leading the Laker offense with a pair of hits while Shearer drove in a team-high 2 runs.

Walker Stephens got the start for Russell County, pitching 1 inning and giving up 4 runs on 3 hits. Owen Loy entered in relief, pitching 3 innings and giving up 3 hits and 1 run. Ayden McGowan pitched 3 innings, giving up no hits and no runs, and striking out 3.

In the second game on Saturday, the Lakers won in walk-off fashion in the 10th inning, as Jace Skaggs was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the winning run for the Lakers by a score of 6-5.

Trace Stringer, Adam Walters, and McGowan each finished with 2 hits, and Walters drove in a pair of runs.

Walters got the start on the mound, pitching 6 2/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and striking out 2.

McGowan entered in relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 2.

Stringer closed out the game, pitching 2/3 of an inning, giving up just 1 hit and striking out 1.

The Lakers play at home again tonight, hosting Adair County in our Stephen’s Pipe and Steel Laker Baseball Game of the Week. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 with pregame on Laker Country 104.9 starting at about 5:15.
