Fiscal court meeting time to remain the same

The topic of the meeting time for fiscal court meetings arose at the end of Monday’s fiscal court meeting, with the court holding a vote about reverting the meeting time to 5:30 p.m.

At the beginning of the year, the court unanimously approved a change to move the meeting time to 10 a.m. However, Magistrate Mickey Garner said he didn’t like the new time and made a motion to change it.

The vote ended in a tie with Garner and Magistrates Steve Richardson and Larry Skaggs voting to go back to the 5:30 meeting time and Judge Executive Randy Marcum joining Magistrates Terry Waddell and Zach Wilson voting against Garner’s motion.

Ultimately, state law says the county judge executive is in charge of setting meeting dates for the fiscal court. Marcum noted at the end of the meeting that more than half the fiscal courts in the state hold their meetings during the day.
