Crash in Casey County results in three deaths, another person seriously injured

A fatal collision in Casey County resulted in the deaths of three individuals yesterday afternoon, with another suffering serious injuries.

According to a spokesperson for Kentucky State Police Post 15, the crash resulted in the death of 85-year-old Otis Tapscott of Liberty, 56-year-old Teresa Burton of Yosemite, and 67-year-old James Burton of Liberty.

State Police say the accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 127 and KY 70 just after 2 p.m. ET yesterday. Reports are that Tapscott was operating a 2005 Jeep Liberty eastbound on KY 70 when he disregarded a stop sign at the 127 and 70 intersection, colliding with a 2011 Chevy Equinox operated by Teresa Burton, who was traveling south on 127.

Tapscott and James Burton were pronounced deceased on scene by the Casey County Coroner’s Office. Teresa Burton was transported to Casey County Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Another passenger in the Burton vehicle, 21-year-old Jackie Dylan Cooper of Liberty, was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital with serious injuries, according to state police.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Alex England.
