Russell Springs approves new water, sewer increases ; attorney says increases were necessary

The Russell Springs City Council met last night, and approved increases in water and sewer rates that were discussed last month.

According to a press release provided by the city and Damon Talley, a lawyer contracted through the city who specializes in water utilities, Russell Springs is increasing its retail water rates to its customers by about 13 percent with a 31.5 percent increase placed on the wholesale rate from Jamestown to Russell Springs.

In regard to sewer rates, Talley said Jamestown increased its wholesale wastewater treatment rate that it charges Russell Springs by about 50 percent, but Russell Springs is increasing its retail rate to its customers by just under 37 percent.

WJRS News spoke with Talley following last night’s meeting about the rate increases.
