Lady Laker offense explodes in home opener victory over Campbellsville

The Russell County Lady Laker Softball team hosted Campbellsville in their home opener last night, picking up a 16-6 victory over the Lady Eagles in 6 innings.

The Lady Lakers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after the first two innings, but the Lady Eagles clawed back into the game, cutting the lead to 7-6 going into the bottom of the 5th inning.

The Lady Lakers would add another run in the bottom of the 5th, and held the Lady Eagles scoreless in the top of the 6th.

Then, in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Lady Lakers put 8 runs on the board, ending the game early with a 10-run victory to make it back-to-back wins to start the season.

The Lady Lakers had several contributions on offense. Audrie Roy led the Lady Lakers with 3 hits and 4 runs batted in. Avery Hart and Brylie Hardwick each drove in three runs as well, with Hardwick’s coming off her second homerun of the season, a three-run shot in the 6th inning.

Mallie McQueary also homered in last night’s game, a solo shot that came in the 6th inning as well.

Rylen McGowan led the Lady Lakers with 5 runs scored, thanks to drawing three walks in last night’s game.

Addison Hart got the start in the pitcher’s circle, pitching 4 innings to pick up the win. Hart gave up 6 hits and 6 runs, with 3 earned, while giving up no walks and striking out two.

Hardwick entered in relief, giving up 2 hits in 2 innings and no runs.

The Lady Lakers will be back in action on Thursday, taking on North Laurel.
