Lady Laker bats keep rolling in win over North Laurel

The Russell County Lady Laker Softball team saw its hot hitting continue last night, as the Lady Lakers racked up 13 hits en route to a 15-7 win over the North Laurel Lady Jaguars.

The win makes three in row for the Lady Lakers to start the 2024 campaign.

The Lady Jaguars jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a three-run home run in the top of the first, but the Lady Lakers responded in the second inning as Mallie McQueary hit a double to right field with the bases loaded to tie the game. The Lady Lakers added another run in the second to take a 4-3 lead.

After Russell County went up 6-3 in the third inning, North Laurel tied the game in the 5th inning.

The Lady Laker offense picked up again in the 6th, as the Lady Lakers scored 9 runs with Russell County drawing 7 total walks in the inning, while Jaylee Roy and Addie Davis each hit triples and Brylie Hardwick hit a double.

Hardwick also hit a home run in the victory, her third home run in three games.

McQueary and Jaylee Roy each drove in 4 runs, while Hardwick and Davis each drove in two. Audrie Roy and Rylen McGowan each drove in a run.

Davis and Camdin Cooper led Russell County in hits with 3 each.

Addison Hart got the win in the pitching circle, pitching 4 innings and giving up 6 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits and striking out 2.

Hardwick entered in relief, pitching 3 innings and giving up 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 2.

The Lady Lakers go on the road for a region matchup today at Barren County. That game is slated to get underway at 5:30 p.m.
