Plans for old Kmart building in the works

The building that formerly housed Kmart in the Northridge Shopping Center in Russell Springs is always a popular conversation topic, and it seems that the building could be seeing some new businesses in the near future.

Russell Springs Economic Development Director Jeramy Coffey said during last week’s city council meeting that Tractor Supply Company has taken bids for an upfit of the old Kmart building.

Tractor Supply is looking to operate about 29,000 square feet of the building.

Coffey said there are some discussions about who would pay for the upfit of the building.

Barring any changes, Bargain Hunt is set to operate another roughly 29,000 square feet of the building.

That would leave about 30,000 feet in the center of the building unoccupied, as city leaders look to recruit a business to utilize that space.

Right now, these plans are not contractual, but city leaders feel confident things are going in a positive direction.
