Russell County soldier killed in WWII laid to rest yesterday

A Russell County soldier who was killed in World War II was laid to rest yesterday.

The funeral for Private First Class Henry C. Wade was held yesterday with burial at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy.

Wade was a native of the Decatur community of Russell County. He was 24 years old at the time of his death.

Wade was killed in action in November 1944 near the Germany-Belgium border, but due to the tactical situation, his remains were not immediately recovered and he was declared non-recoverable in 1951.

Years of work by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency led to the identification of Wade.

Gov. Andy Beshear ordered flags to half-staff yesterday in honor of Wade.
