Russell County sees improvement in Kentucky Kids Count Survey

Concluding our look at the data from the Kentucky Kids Count Survey, today we take a look at how Russell County fared in categories related to juvenile justice and education.

Russell County saw improvement in the number of youth incarcerated in the juvenile justice system. For years 2020-2022, Russell County had a rate of 6.3 per 1,000 children incarcerated in the juvenile justice system, a near 50 percent decrease from 2015-2017.

That is the 29th-lowest percentage among all counties in Kentucky.

Another category Russell County saw improvement in was the number of births to mothers without a high school degree.

From 2019-2021, 15.4 percent of births were to mothers without a high school degree, which is a decrease from 18.4 percent in the years 2014-2016.

That ranks 80th among Kentucky’s 120 counties.

The Kentucky Kids Count Survey is performed by the Kentucky Youth Advocates in partnership with the Kentucky State Data Center.
