Several local officials were on hand yesterday at the site of the new Climavision Weather Radar on the water tower near the Russell County EMS building.
The radar aims to fill in the gap of weather coverage and help provide a better look at severe weather.
Climavision is a Louisville-based company, and this is the first radar system the company has installed in the commonwealth, with 20 other radars operating in other states such as Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.
County Judge Executive Randy Marcum said he’s glad Climavision chose Russell County as its first Kentucky location and believes it will be a major benefit to the community.
Jamestown Mayor Regena Hinton said she believes the radar has the potential to save lives and it’s a great partnership between Climavision and local government.
