Laker Football falls to Wayne County on the road

The Laker Football team fell to Wayne County on the road last Friday, falling to 1-8 on the season and ending the chance of a berth in the playoffs.

The Lakers fell 44-23 to the Cardinals in a district matchup where the winner would secure a spot in the Class 4A playoffs.

The Cardinals outgained the Lakers 393-257, with the Lakers finishing with 188 yards through the air and 69 yards on the ground.

The Lakers now enter their bye week before preparing for the season finale on Oct. 27.

LaRue County will come to town for senior night and what will be the last game on the current Finley Field with the new football stadium expected to be open by next fall.

The Hawks currently sit at 0-8 on the season but go on the road to Central this Friday before taking on Russell County.
