Laker Football drops close game at Somerset

The Russell County Laker Football team lost a close one at Somerset Friday night, falling 28-24 to the Briar Jumpers.

The Lakers held a 24-21 lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Briar Jumpers connected on a 31-yard touchdown pass in the corner of the end zone with just 21 seconds remaining to pick up the win.

Kinnett Wills scored three touchdowns for the Lakers with one rushing touchdown, a receiving touchdown, and a kick return for a touchdown.

The Lakers bounced back from a rough offensive performance at Adair County in Week 1, finishing the night with over 300 yards of total offense.

Now sitting at 0-2, the Lakers will look for their first win of the season on the road again this Friday night, taking on the South Laurel Cardinals, who enter at 2-0.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
