Local search and rescue assists with drowning at Green River Lake

The Russell County Search and Rescue Squad was called to assist rescue crews in Taylor County Sunday and yesterday in regard to a drowning at Green River Lake State Park.

According to reports, a 37-year-old man from the Louisville area was walking in an area of the water designated as a no-swimming area, and after walking several feet in the water, he disappeared underneath the surface.

Russell County Search and Rescue was called out a little after 6 p.m. Sunday and worked until early in the morning until the search was called off.

Search efforts resumed about 8 a.m. yesterday and the man was discovered at about 11:30 a.m. in more than 30 feet of water tangled in heavy brush.

Seven members from the local rescue squad responded to assist with the search.

This is the third drowning in the last two weeks at Green River Lake in Taylor County.
