Jimmy Clay Coffey, age 82, of Russell Springs

Jimmy Clay Coffey, of Russell Springs, passed from this life Friday, June 2, 2023, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. He was 82 years of age.

Born at home on August 3, 1940, in Russell County, he was a son of the late Cassius Clay and Okle May Gosser Coffey. Jimmy Clay was the owner and operator of Coffey and Coffey Pre-Cast Concrete, in addition to being a farmer and school bus driver. He was a devoted member of Clear Springs Baptist Church and a former board member of Russell County Hospital. Jimmy Clay was a charter member and former President of the Russell County Jaycees. In 1981, Jimmy Clay, along with his wife, Della, were named the KY State Fair Persons of the Year. He was also the President of KY State Fairs and Horseshows in 1994.  Jimmy Clay was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He especially loved visiting his extended family in Arkansas.

Survivors include one son, Lance (and Sherri) Coffey of Nancy; two daughters, Debra (and Randy) Taylor and Cammie (and Gary) Welker, both of Russell Springs; three grandchildren, Michael (and Miata) Richardson of Bowling Green, Clay (and Elisabeth) Taylor of Russell Springs, and Les (and Abby) Taylor of Russell Springs; and three great-grandchildren, Liam Taylor, Silver Taylor and Luke Taylor. Jimmy Clay is also survived by two brothers, Paul Coffey of Russell Springs and Doug Coffey of Columbia; one sister, Jennie Lou Hart of Russell Springs; one brother-in-law, Ertis Cain of Somerset; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Unadell O. “Della” Scales Coffey, who passed away February 9, 2020; two brothers, Ed T. Coffey and Donnie Coffey; and three sisters, Linda Marie Coffey, Ilith Whittle, and Imogene Cain.

Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home, with Bro. Garry Wilson and Bro. Josh Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, June 5, 2023, at Bernard Funeral Home, and after 8:00 A.M. Tuesday, until time of service.

Michael Richardson, Clay Taylor, Les Taylor, Troy Coffey, Tyler Coffey, and Clint Hart will serve as Pallbearers.
