Wildlife officials release trout in Russell, Wayne counties

Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery staff with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel this week stocked Rainbow trout in the Cumberland River in both Russell and Wayne counties.

A total of 8,000 trout were stocked below Wolf Creek Dam in the Cumberland Tailwater, 3,000 trout were stocked at Helm’s Landing and another 3,000 were stocked at Winfrey’s Ferry.

In neighboring Wayne County, a total of 900 trout were stocked between Elk Springs and Beaver Creek.

Hatchery Creek near the hatchery is stocked every other day, according to hatchery officials. The Cumberland River is stocked at least one day a month, and possibly more depending on the truck availability.
