Spring squirrel season begins today

A favorite past time for Kentucky outdoorsmen and women, spring squirrel season, begins today and runs through June 16th, according to state wildlife officials.

The daily limit is six while the possession limit is 12 squirrels during the spring season. Shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. Hunters may be in the field before and after shooting hours

Squirrels may be hunted all day, but they appear to be most active in the first hours of daylight and late afternoon.

Hunters do not have to telecheck their harvests, but can assist Kentucky Fish and Wildlife by filling out the hunter cooperator surveys for small game. For more visit fw.ky.gov.
