Russell Springs Council hears first reading of yard sale/flea market ordinance

Flea markets and yard sales were the topic of the first reading of an ordinance heard by the Russell Springs City Council last week.

The ordinance, as it is written now, would limit yard sales and flea markets to Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and would place a cap of two yard sales per year for residents.

The ordinance also states that open-air flea markets should provide permanent restroom facilities.

Mayor Eddie Thomas spoke to WJRS News and said the city has received some complaints about yard sales and flea markets in the city, and this ordinance hopes to address concerns by the city’s residents, particularly in regard to traffic.
