Progress being made on current U.S. 127 realignment phase

Work continues on a $105 million phase of the U.S. 127 alignment project in Russell and Clinton counties, according to Amber Hale with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 Office in Somerset.

Hale says while much progress has been made on the project, it looks as if work is moving slow due to the sheer size of the task at hand.

The contractor, Bizzack Construction LLC, is currently working on the first rock cut located south of the Cumberland River as well as the bridge over Swan Pond Road. Hale noted they should set the beams on that particular bridge this summer.

Contractors have also begun some minor work on the bridge over B. Mann Road as well.

Officials say work on the realignment is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2027.  The overall project will eventually re-route U.S. 127 off of Wolf Creek Dam.
