Lakers claim 6th consecutive district title

The Russell County Laker Baseball team is once again champions of the 16th District.

With a 3-1 win over the Clinton County Bulldogs last night, the Lakers claimed their 6th consecutive district title and 15th championship since 2006.

Only twice since moving to the district has Russell County not won the district tournament.

Last night, Trace Stringer came up big at the plate and on the mound.

At the plate, Stringer finished with a pair of hits and a run scored.

On the mound, Stringer entered in relief and pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out 4.

Aidan Antle came up big, driving in a pair of runs and Carter Stapp drove in a run as well.

Antle, Stringer, Adam Walters, Mayes Gosser, and Ayden McGowan were named to the All-District Team.

The Lakers now wait to see their draw for the upcoming 4th Region tournament next week.

As district winners, the Lakers will host in the opening round.

The opponent will either be Logan County, South Warren, or Warren East.

The region draw is scheduled for Saturday morning with first round games scheduled for Monday.
