Gosser, Shearer power Lakers to region tournament win

The Russell County Lakers won a nail-biter in the opening round of the 4th Region Tournament against the Warren East Raiders last night at Laker Field by a score of 8-7.

In the rematch from last year’s region championship, the Lakers were powered by the big bats of Mayes Gosser and Jack Shearer, who combined to drive in all 8 of the Lakers’ runs.

Gosser hit a pair of two-run home runs, and Shearer came through with a pair of RBI singles.

On the mound, Trace Stringer got the win, pitching 4 innings and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4. Gosser picked up the save, recording the final two outs to secure the win.

The Lakers are back in action tonight as they will take on Bowling Green at Western Kentucky University in the region semifinals. The Purples defeated Logan County 7-6 in the opening round last night.

First pitch from Western Kentucky University is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

We’ll have coverage right here on Laker Country 104.9 beginning about 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
