Columbia man arrested on rape charge

In neighboring Adair County, the Columbia Police Department made a sexual assault arrest Monday after concluding an investigation that began last month.

The alleged victim, a female juvenile, originally came forward while attending Adair County High School, stating that a family friend had sexually assaulted her while frequently visiting her residence.

The CPD officer investigating the alleged incident received an order to remove the female from residence while the investigation was ongoing and found sufficient evidence to bring charges against a male subject.

Police say Jeremiah Shatzer, age 36, of Columbia, was taken into custody Monday evening without incident while he was at his place of work

Shatzer was charged with rape first degree, a class B felony. A family member of the victim, James Manning, age 30, also of Columbia, was charged with assault 4th degree domestic violence in connection with the investigation.

CPD Officer Holly Necessary was the investigating Officer.
