Russell County Emergency Management says several warming shelters are now open in the county through Christmas Day due to the continued extreme cold temperatures.
Shelters include the Russell County Courthouse, Russell Springs and Eli Volunteer Fire Departments, The Church at the Springs Gymnasium (The Rock), Clearfork Baptist Church on Clearfork Rd. in Eli (use side entrance by picnic shelter), Russell County Rescue Squad (call 270-507-8373 or 270-585-4119), Salem Baptist Church at the junction of Hwys. 910 and 76 (call 270-566-4877 to open), and the Union Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Gosser Ridge (call 606-416-4338 to open).
