Arctic system plows through region

A potent Arctic system pushed through the Lake Cumberland area late last night into the early morning hours, bringing with it several inches of snowfall and wind chill readings below zero.

Temperatures will remain frigid through the Christmas weekend and may not be back above the freezing mark until this coming Tuesday.

District 8 road crews and county and city crews worked through the night to keep priority roadways passable.

The cabinet’s snow and ice information website, http://snowky.ky.gov, provides details about priority routes, helpful winter weather tips, fact sheets and videos on salt application and snow removal.

In addition, the public can monitor winter operations in real time on the state’s interactive traffic system – GoKY.ky.gov – to find out what’s happening on state routes in each county.
