NWS releases winter outlook for Ohio Valley region

The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued their outlook for the upcoming 2022-23 winter season in the Ohio Valley region, with January and February possibly leaning warm and wet, with an increased risk of late winter and early spring flooding.

The Climate Prediction Center anticipates the effects of La Niña on the Ohio Valley to be weak this winter, especially with respect to temperature and snowfall. Trends are also anticipating wetter than normal conditions for December through February as a whole during La Niña.

In the short term, it appears that warm conditions may continue into the first half of November before turning colder late November into December.
