LC Cleanup less than three weeks away

With summer winding down and vacationers not as plentiful in the area, it’s time to start planning for the annual Lake Cumberland Cleanup, now just three weeks away.

This year’s cleanup, organized by PRIDE and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be Saturday, September 24th, from 8 a.m. until noon, local time. Locations in Russell County include the Lake Cumberland State Park and Halcomb’s Landing above Wolf Creek Dam. Other locations are Burnside Island State Park, the Waistboro Recreation Area, Conley Bottom Marina, and Grider Hill Marina.

The cleanup is held each year to help remove trash, tires, appliances and more from the shores of Lake Cumberland. Gloves and garbage bags will be provided at each location and volunteer groups wishing to take part are encouraged to pre-register early and be assigned a cleanup area by contacting the PRIDE office at 606-677-6150 or emailing pride@centertech.com.

Registration will begin the day of the cleanup at 8 a.m. at each location.
