Lady Laker Volleyball defeats Clinton County for first time since 2017

The Russell County Lady Laker Volleyball team came away with a big win Thursday night, defeating district rival Clinton County for the first time since 2017.

The last several matches have been close, but this time, Russell County came out on top over the five-time reigning district champion, winning 3-2 in five sets.

The two squads split the first two sets, with Russell County taking the first set and Clinton County the second, each finishing with a score of 25-19.

Russell County won the critical third set 25-20, but the Lady Bulldogs forced a fifth set with a 25-22 victory in the fourth.

However, the Lady Lakers came out strong in the final set, winning 15-8

The win moves the Lady Lakers to 12-1 on the season with a 4-0 mark in district play.

The Lady Lakers had contributions from across the roster in the win.

Briley Murray led the team with 14 kills, followed by Kenzie Kelsey with 10, Jaterria Coffey with 8, Rachel Webb with 7, Lauren White with 5, and Jaylee Roy with 2.

Avery Hart and Sophia Dockery led the team in assists with 17 and 16, respectively.
