Russell County unemployment drops nearly one percent

The unemployment rate in Russell County fell nearly one percent from a year ago, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

A new report released on Thursday shows Russell County’s unemployment rate dropped from 6.1 percent in July 2021 to 5.2 percent in July 2022.

While Russell County’s unemployment rate remains among the highest in the area, only behind McCreary County in the Lake Cumberland District at 5.6 percent, the decrease was among the most significant in the region.

McCreary and Wayne each dropped one percent, while Russell and Adair each dropped 0.9 percent.

Across the state, unemployment dropped in 117 of Kentucky’s 120 counties with increases being reported in 3 counties.

Neighboring Cumberland County was tied for the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 3.3 percent, according to the report.
