Man arrested on arson charge stemming from downtown Monticello fire

A Wayne County man is in custody in relation to a fire that destroyed the Wray Building in downtown Monticello and damaged the Wayne County Courthouse along with other downtown buildings Friday morning.

According to Monticello Police, Joey Wayne Hall, age 45, was arrested just before 10 a.m. Sunday and charged with two counts of arson first degree in relation to the fire.

Hall was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center and the investigation is ongoing by the Monticello Police Department, Monticello Fire Department, Wayne County Attorney’s Office, and the state fire Marshall’s office.
