Nathan Lawson and Cody Luttrell played key roles in leading the Russell County Lakers to a 7-3 win over the Bowling Green Purples last night to earn a spot in the 4th Region Championship.

Lawson got the start on the mound, and started strong, not allowing a hit or run through the first five innings against a Purples squad that came into the game ranked in the top five in the state in hits, batting average, and runs scored.

A weather delay in the 5th inning lasted for nearly two hours, and after 5 innings, the Lakers led 7-0.

Bowling Green began to rally in the 6th inning, scoring three runs. The Lakers then turned to Cody Luttrell on the mound, who proceeded to strike out the next six Purples batters and secure a 7-3 win for the Lakers.

The win secured a spot for Russell County in the 4th Region Championship to take on the winner of Warren East and Clinton County, who will play today at noon. That game was scheduled to take place last night but was pushed back due to weather.

Lawson got the win, pitching five innings and giving up three runs on two hits and striking out six. Luttrell picked up the save, pitching two innings and striking out six.

At the plate, Aidan Antle came up big, finishing 2-3 and driving in three runs. Nick Aaron, Maxon Gosser, and Lawson each drove in a run as well for Russell County. Mayes Gosser scored a team-high three runs on the night.
