USPS reform bill signed into law

The U.S. Postal Service reform bill that ensures mail delivery will occur six times a week and makes the postal service more financially “sustainable and stable” was signed into law by President Joe Biden this week.

The bipartisan measure repeals an agency mandate that forced it to cover health care costs for retirees in advance as now retired postal employees will sign up for Medicare once they are eligible. According to reports, the House Oversight Committee says these two reforms will save the USPS nearly $50 billion over the next decade.

Besides requiring six day mail delivery, the postal service will be required to create an online public dashboard displaying performance data, among other things.

The USPS does not receive taxpayer funds, and relies on funds from selling stamps as well as other fees.
